CA For The Arts: "CA Arts & Culture Summit 2026 Keynote"

From farmworkers’ rights to ICE raids, movements for justice continue to ask the same urgent question: How do we respond now? Moderated by Maria Rosario Jackson, University Professor of Creativity and Social Impact, Arizona State University, with speakers Hector Flores, Artistic Director, Las Cafeteras; and Luis Valdez, Filmmaker, Founder & Artistic Director, El Teatro Campesino, this conversation explores the enduring history of resistance and the essential role of arts and culture in advancing peace through justice. Grounded in the legacy of cultural and movement leaders whose organizing and creative work reshaped labor rights, civic power, and public consciousness, the conversation traces how art, storytelling, and cultural practice have long fueled social change. It examines how creative expression has mobilized communities, shifted narratives, and expanded what advocacy looks like across generations.
