DW - Bachfest: St. Matthew Passion Concert

Featured: The St Matthew Passion (Passio secundum Matthaeum, BWV 244) for solo voices, soprano in ripieni, double choir and double orchestra is Bach’s largest ensemble work, but at a length of around three hours, it’s also his longest. This monumental piece not only perpetuated the tradition of Good Friday passion plays, it also expanded the possibilities of the genre – something that induced Bach’s wife Anna Magdalena to describe it simply as the ‘Great Passion’.
